Return to Spring Studio

Back to Spring Studio for a day of drawing.  Was tired and burnt out, but that's no excuse so we got an early morning train to NYC.  The shorter gesture poses felt the best.  I'm trying to gesture the same size on newsprint as I'll draw on better paper.  Started falling apart on longer poses.  Thinking was hard and got overwhelmed by details.  The portrait session was a disaster as I was floundering.  BUT, I got a GREAT lesson from the monitor Lyle Gertz.  Called me out on floundering and set be back on track.  Goals for the new year are values, composition and getting out of my own way.  Once again,  a great group of people there to draw.  And the day before Christmas no less.

October Return

Caught some local figure drawing again.

 The extra little hairs were a terrible choice.  Too late to erase.  Would completely change the left side of the pony tail as well.  Over all for the first live portrait in a few months, I'm encouraged for the future.

 Thought making the arm darker would help make it pop.  It did the opposite. Should have shadowed the leg and back arm instead.

Light June

We're entering crunch at work so extra arting time is diminishing.  We got one more local session of life drawing in which produced nothing of note.  Trying to do "memory gesture sketches," as per Nicolaides. 15 mins or so every day, do some quick gestural thumbnail compositions from memory from through out the day.  No floating heads, or torsos, try putting characters in a scene with boarders.  These are a few from camping.

Spring Studio Madness Day 3

Back for day 3.  Feeling tired.  18 hours of drawing in the past to days, plus commuting into and out of NYC is taking its tole.  Tried to compose a quick 20 min drawing on blue charcoal paper.  Flubbed it on the hands and got o close to the edges of the paper.
